'Sinulog Dancer'

Year: 1994
Size: 18 1/4 x 24
Medium: Acrylic, Collage on canvas

A centuries-old dance appealing for favors from the Christ Child. Peculiarly a Cebuano tradition, it began from a humble folk ritual that now become a yearly colorful extravaganza. In this frenzy of custom and costume, the artist incorporates the sublime that is festooned with decorative colors, though in reality the dancing woman was emblazoned by the artist with throw-away rags, cogon papers and curtain laces.
