During low tide, the birds forage on the vast intertidal flat, too scattered for their numbers to be appreciated, so bird watching is normally timed to coincide with high tide (no higher than 1.3 meters, however), when the birds are concentrated on whatever still dry spots are left at the tidal flat. To give them as spectacular a view of the birds as possible, visitors are brought to the Bird Sanctuary just before high tide. The best season to visit the Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary is during the peak migration months when most of the birds have arrived at the island. The peak months for the southward migration are from September to November, while those for the northward migration fall between February and April.
